Agenda is Available HERE

Artificial Intelligence can help process data and give healthcare professionals  important insights, improving health outcomes and patient experiences. Thanks to recent advances in computer science and informatics, artificial intelligence (AI) is quickly becoming an integral part of modern healthcare. AI algorithms and other applications powered by AI are being used to support medical professionals in clinical settings and in ongoing research.

WEDI's Spotlight Series continues as industry thought leaders share their subject matter expertise on how the industry has and will leverage artificial intelligence, machine learning, natural language processing and more to make healthcare more efficient and productive.

Current Speaker List

Aziz Nazha, MD, Practice Manager- Data and Machine Learning, Amazon Web Services

What is the difference between Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Deep Learning? Why does healthcare need this technology, and what are the current challenges and potential opportunities? Learn how Amazon Web Service’s Machine Learning platform is ushering clinical and administrative data exchange to a new, exciting era. Dr. Nazha will offer insight on several AWS projects and initiatives using emerging technology to increase efficiency in workflows and patient satisfaction.

Kevin Deutsch, GM and SVP, Health Plan Cloud, Softheon

Learn how machine learning can aid identifying and predicting terminations, allowing health plans to focus on at-risk individuals, which can then enable ROI on retention and minimize operational spending and workload

Justin Allred, Principal Data Scientist, Data Science Solutions, Milliman

Paru Srinivasan, Director, Data Science Products, MCG Health

Join experts from MCG Health as they explore how artificial intelligence technologies (such as natural language processing and deep learning), are simplifying access and usage of nationally recognized, evidence-based guidance. This session will include best practices/strategies on NLP development and implementation, as well as real-world examples where this technology is already having a significant impact on cost savings and improved patient outcomes.

Gil Alterovitz, PhD, Director, National Artificial Intelligence Institute, US Department of Veterans Affairs

With over 9 million patients, the Department of Veterans Affairs is the largest integrated healthcare system in the US. Learn from Dr. Alterovitz about the VA’s AI strategy, how they are creating a balance between innovation, safety and trust, and their unique tools and resources they are using for healthcare and benefits.

Steven Waldren, MD, Vice President & Chief Medical Informatics Officer, American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP)

In 2018, the AAFP board of directors approved a four-year project to find solutions to EHR-related issues. AAFP Vice President and Chief Medical Informatics Officer Steven Waldren, M.D., M.S., spearheaded the establishment of an Innovation Laboratory to drive innovation using cloud, AI/machine learning, and voice and mobile technologies. The first tool the lab worked with is a digital assistant called Suki that combined AI and voice-enabled technology. At the 4 year mark, Dr Waldren will discuss how Suki affected physician burden and burnout, what else is AAFP’s Innovation Lab working on and how does the lab assess the value of AI-based primary care tools.

Kaushik Roy, Senior Director AI Product Management, Change Healthcare

Kevin Larsen, Senior Vice President, Clinical Innovation, Optum

Derrick Higgins, PhD, Head of Data Science and AI Solutions, Health Care Service Corporation

AI and emerging technology leaders from 3 major healthcare organizations offer their unique, hands-on perspective on how AI is changing their businesses. Learn how is AI, ML and NLP changing the game for utilization management, clinical decision support, claims integrity, prior authorization, voice bots, intelligent workforce prioritization and much more.

Christopher Khoury, Vice President, Strategic Insights, American Medical Association

In 2018, AMA adopted landmark policy establishing augmented intelligence as a construct for AI’s use in medicine. An AI-derived algorithm is only as good as the data with which it builds upon. We end the day taking stock of the conversation while considering the ethics, equity, and other social implications of AI. We’ll pull together the perspectives of physicians and health systems adopting these new tools, developers creating them, and the role of associations and other public stewards.
